According to the latest research from Strategy Analytics, China’s rapid adoption of 5G technology is powering demand for 5G smartphones. Apple and the domestic trio of OPPO, Vivo and Xiaomi benefitted most as the demand exploded. OPPO, Vivo and Xiaomi closed on Apple capturing 16%, 14% and 12% global market share in the quarter respectively.

The 5G smartphone market is now outperforming its predecessor generations on nearly every metric. Between the number of mobile devices, subscribers, and networks available at launch, 5G is the most accelerated mobile technology generation ever launched.

The development and introduction of more diverse and affordable 5G smartphones will be the main driver accelerating 5G adoption after 2021, with many lead vendors expected to push deeper into the segment, quickly democratizing the 5G experience and establishing a wider ecosystem.

According to the latest research from Strategy Analytics, Samsung Galaxy S20+ 5G was the world’s bestselling 5G smartphone model by revenue in the first half of 2020. Apple iPhone 12 is expected to take the 5G crown in H2 2020.
