Enterprise Technology Research (ETR), a technology market research firm, released its latest Technology Spending Intentions Survey (TSIS). The TSIS shows cybersecurity leads as the highest IT priority and that tech hiring is at the highest levels ever reported in TSIS, and 64% of the workforce will embrace some form of remote work permanently.

The mobile computing market is in full recovery after several years of shipment and revenue declines. Hybrid work environments will become more prevalent as many employees report tangible benefits from remote work and are increasingly demanding more flexible work environments. The Windows 11 / post-pandemic refresh cycle will push the market to new highs of $241 billion in revenue in 2025 from $197 billion in 2020.

By the end of 2021, 51% of all knowledge workers worldwide are expected to be working remotely, up from 27% of knowledge workers in 2019, according to Gartner, Inc. Gartner also estimates that remote workers will represent 32% of all employees worldwide by the end of 2021. This is up from 17% of employees in 2019. Gartner defines knowledge workers are those who are involved in knowledge-intensive occupations, such as writers, accountants, or engineers.

As remote working and e-learning continues worldwide, demand for Notebook PCs was at its highest ever in Q4 2020, driving 54% year-on-year growth for notebook shipments. The Notebook PC industry picked up pace in the last quarter as consumer demand supplemented sustained work and school-from-home demand.

The proliferation of remote work and learning during the COVID-19 pandemic will drive global demand for wireless content sharing. Comprised of remote collaboration tools such as video streaming, application and other similar capabilities, these enable users to collaborate effectively from anywhere at any time and from any device.

A Gartner, Inc. survey revealed that 90% of HR leaders plan to allow employees to work remotely at least part of the time, even after the COVID-19 vaccine is widely adopted. Sixty-five percent of respondents reported that their organization will continue to offer employees flexibility on when they work.

Companies who are early adopters of digital talent platforms see a competitive advantage in shifting their workforce model to a blend of full-time and freelance employees. At the same time, millions of highly skilled professionals—who seek flexible and remote work—are using the platforms to connect with employers.
